The Thousand Palms sub-area was originally 285 acres in size. In July of 1999, the Board approved an amendment to allow for the addition of new territory to the sub-area. The total acreage of the sub-area is 693 acres. The sub-area is adjacent to Interstate 10 in the middle of the Coachella Valley. The Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone was recently extended into this area to encourage new businesses to the area through the provision of state tax credits.
