The Desert Center Community Sub-Area is comprised of irregularly shaped areas spread throughout the Desert Center community in Supervisorial District Four. The project area contains about 394 acres in two, non-contiguous areas located along Ragsdale Road and County Road (Kaiser Road) and in the Lake Tamarisk area.

The Lake Tamarisk area is made up of residential and recreational uses. There are also numerous vacant and underutilized parcels in the sub-area. The southern sub-area is a combination of developed public and utility land, and vacant public land near the proposed Eagle Mountain Land Fill.

Project Objectives

Public improvements to be made by the Agency include curbs, gutters, street widening, street construction, traffic signals, school facilities, water system upgrading, and sewer and drainage facilities as necessary. Streetlights are needed throughout the area. The Agency will also work to stimulate development of commercial uses in the area.

Redevelopment Potential

Agency financial assistance should be utilized to induce the development of commercial uses in the area and to relieve tax burdens imposed by the assessment district on the residents of Lake Tamarisk. Housing set-aside funds could be used to improve water, sewer and drainage facilities throughout the project area. The sub-area is located within the Desert Communities Empowerment Zone.
